“The stories of the huwarang family-beneficiaries are worth sharing to the public to show that the program had become a facilitator of bringing opportunities and social services closer to our beneficiaries, and that our efforts have borne fruits.”

This was emphasized by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Virginia N. Orogo as she commended the finalists of the National Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya 2018 for their exemplary contributions to promote positive Filipino values.

The nationwide search, which started in August, aims to give recognition to the exemplary family-beneficiary who maintained strong family ties, demonstrated positive Filipino values, and created a positive impact in their community through the Pantawid Pamilya program.

It carries the theme, “Pamilyang Pilipino: Nagsusumikap. Nagtutulungan. Nagtatagumpay.” highlighting the hard work of family-beneficiaries to produce positive results in their daily lives, with the help of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya search also disproves the misconception that program beneficiaries become too dependent on government aid and underscores the value of working together to achieve success.

Since 2012, the search has been recognizing family-beneficiaries who are able to comply with program conditionalities, sustain family togetherness, and become active citizens of their community despite the challenges brought about by poverty.

This year’s national finalists are the Ramos family (Urbiztondo, Pangasinan); Marañas family (Sta. Maria, Laguna); Dionisio family (Labo, Camarines, Norte); Bonite family (Roxas City, Capiz); and Campugan family (Cordova, Cebu). They bested 11 family-beneficiaries from other regions.

National Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Finalists:

The Ramos family is lauded for showing malasakit sa kapwa through their feeding program which started in 2013. They collect and sell recyclable materials to fund this initiative.

Meanwhile, the Marañas family is labeled by their neighbors and co-beneficiaries as a family who is always on-call because they are always ready to lend a hand during emergencies and calamities.

The Dionisio family is recognized for advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples in their tribe through teaching them how to read and write and develop good personal hygiene.

The Bonite family’s spirit of volunteerism shows in their participation in numerous barangay projects and activities. They were also awarded for their successful sustainable livelihood program of catfish farming in Roxas City.

On the other hand, the Campugan family never felt discouraged in reaching for their dreams and helping their community amid their mother’s battle against breast cancer. Despite their personal struggles, they remained optimistic and cheery.

The awarding ceremony for the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya will be on October 14, 2018 in Metro Manila as part of the celebration of the Pantawid Pamilya National Family Day. Plaques, gifts from partners, and cash prizes will be given away to the top five family-beneficiaries and other finalists-P30,000 (grand winner), P25,000 (1st prize), P15,000 (2nd prize), and P10,000 (3rd and 4th prize).

Moreover, two special awards such as AlaGAD (Affirmative and Laudable Advocacies on Gender and Development) Award and Most Innovative Family Award will also be given to deserving families.
